Chris Tanner with Stefano Mosimann and Marc Simon Frei, Horgen In June of 2014, a hefty summer storm raged over the Aeugstvalley in the vicinity of Zurich, and lightning struck the over 120 year old poplar that guarded the farmhouse of the Stehli family. Throughout the years, this impressive tree had survived three lightning strikes thus protecting the house. But this last lightning strike proved deadly.

I am Marc Simon Frei, a lighting designer and concept artist from Lucerne, Switzerland. My work is guided by curiosity for light and the ways it shapes our experience of the world. Sometimes this takes the form of experiments with Tesla coils or other electrical devices, sometimes through photography, installations, or small artistic concepts. What interests me most are the fragile and fleeting moments that emerge in these explorations. With my Leica camera, I try to capture them with honesty and simplicity, hoping to preserve a sense of wonder that might otherwise remain unseen.
